American Airlines is a Fortune 100 corporation and the world’s largest passenger carrier with a fleet of over 920 aircraft that provide its passengers with access to 269 domestic US destinations. Its global reach includes an additional 81 international stops — increasing that coverage to 60 countries served by 6700 flights daily.

American Airlines was experiencing friction in its international recruiting efforts. One key pain point was an inability to work across multiple systems at volumes that met its ongoing staffing requirements. The Airline also faced limitations in its business operations that constrained the company’s flexibility and ability to augment its full-time staff with contractors. The aviation business needed a centralized system that could support active, inactive and retired candidates with custom protocols and historical records.

Furthermore, the business required a solution that supported multiple unions with different requirements, this meant building a custom solution that would support a variety of union regulations and integrate with tools like Auto PTR, a function that SuccessFactors wouldn’t be able to do.

As a result of the transformation initiative, American Airlines has seen marked improvements across its HR and recruitment process. With SAP SuccessFactors and the Cloud Platform in place, the carrier has seen a 300% increase in candidate applications, largely due to reducing its application process to 10 minutes from a pre-transformation average of over 45 minutes.
